Donna Marguerite Scott

Prattville resident Donna Marguerite Scott passed from this life peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Saturday morning, October 31st, 2009 at her residence. She had fought a short but courageous battle with Leukemia.

Born 84 years ago in Westwood, California to the late Burton and Dorothy (Snow) Cadle on August 13th, 1925 she and her family traveled extensively throughout Northern California and Nevada in her youth, though her fondest memories of her childhood are from her time spent in the mining communities of Seneca and Dutch Hill. She is one of the last remaining survivors of the area's mining heydays.

Donna graduated high school from Santa Maria High as a member of the "Class of 1943" and went on to attend Santa Maria Junior College and later Chico State College where she received her BA degree in English and teaching credential. While attending high school and college she was quite active in the theater arts.

Donna married Burton Scott, a longtime family acquaintance, in Reno, Nevada and they raised two sons.

Following her graduation from college she went to work as a waitress at the old Hotel Oaks in Chico to help support the family while her husband was called to serve his country during the Korean War. She remained employed there until entering the teaching field in 1965 when she began a fifteen year career at Bidwell Junior High School where she taught English, Speech and Drama.

Upon her retirement she and her husband moved to the Lake Almanor community of Prattville. Here she became active with the community as a member and longtime Secretary/Treasurer of the Prattville Water Association and the Prattville Volunteer Fire Department. Recently she had been instrumental in raising funds for improvements at the Prattville Cemetery. Donna continued her love of the theater as a member of the Plumas County Readers Theatre Group and had co-starred in a local play, Drink With An Ugly Lady, at age 80. A devoted grandmother she found great enjoyment in spending time with her grandchildren as well as visiting the communities of Dutch Hill and Seneca and sharing her memories of the area with her family. Donna enjoyed her pets and was an advocate for the Humane Society.

In passing Donna leaves her sons; Patrick "Rick" Scott and his wife Carmen Gonzales of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Dennis Ray Scott of Prattville, CA and his companion Geri Jensen, sister and brother in laws; Marjorie Scott, Delmar and Alice Scott, Mollie and Bob Brand, and Ken Boyles along with the jewels of her later life; grandchildren, Darlene GrayScott, Troy Gray, William Scott, Brittan Scott, Morgan Scott, Brianne Murdock and great grandchild; Cash Murdock.

Along with her parents Donna joins in her eternal home her sister; Patricia Boyles and brother; William Cadle.

A celebration of Donna's life is planned for the summer of 2010. A date and time will be announced at a later date. An opportunity to express your condolences to the family along with signing the memorial guest register is available online at www.fehrmanmortuary.com. The family suggests any remembrances in Donna's memory be made to the Humane Society c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory P.O. Box 803 Greenville, CA 95947
