John Salentro, 56, of Shinnston died on October 19, 2009 at United Hospital Center.

He was born June 15, 1953 in Clarksburg, the son of Dominick and Margaret Gonzalez Salentro. He loved sports and coached baseball and basketball for many years. He retired July 1st after 34 years with Robinson Run Mines. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Association.

John was preceded in death by his father, Dominick Salentro; his paternal grandparents, Constantino and Carmella Salentro; and his maternal grandparents, Bernardo and Sabina Gonzalez.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Salentro; one daughter, Stephanie Hardman and her husband Kevin; two sons, Chris and Jason Salentro, all of Shinnston; grandchildren, Jeremy and Ashley Hardman; his mother, Margaret Salentro of Clarksburg; one sister, Cindy Trotta and her husband Albert of Fairmont; several nieces and nephews, and two great nieces.

Friends will be received 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 and from 12:00 pm (noon) to 8:00 pm Thursday with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. October 22, 2009 at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 South Pike Street, Shinnston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m.. Friday, October 23, 2009 at All Saints Catholic Church with Father Harry Cramer as Celebrant. Burial will be at Shinnston Masonic Cemetery, Shinnston.
